Job Description
The role of the Music and Drama Teacher is to inspire students to explore self-expression, creativity, and confidence through music and performing arts. In alignment with Montessori philosophy, the teacher fosters independence, collaboration, and a love of learning by integrating music and drama into the child’s holistic development. The Music and Drama Teacher is directly accountable to the Head of School and will maintain a level of professional behavior that is appropriate in the field of education and supportive of CMH as a viable educational alternative to our students and families.
This is a part time, non-exempt position paid hourly. Approximate hours for the position are 10 per week, between the hours of 8:00am – 3:00pm, Tuesday through Thursday.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate Degree preferred
- Ability to work professionally with school staff, students, and parents.
- Experience with young children
- Willingness on the part of the individual to maintain active participation in advancing their professional capabilities through on-going professional development
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following items are in addition to specific tasks assigned by the Lead Teachers or the Head of School
- Prompt arrival and excellent attendance are crucial. Any anticipated tardiness or illness must be reported to the Lead Teachers and the director of finance and administration as soon as possible so that appropriate staffing of the program is assured
- Responsible for the safety and physical well-being of children, who must be supervised at all times. Must be capable of independent supervision of the children whenever so directed by the Lead Teachers
- Remain calm and in emotional control while with the children. Model appropriate interactions, language, and behavior. Relate to the children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience
- Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of the Prepared Environment.
- Ability to support the students in their learning activities while refraining from doing for the child what the child can do independently
- Responsible for the preparation of materials.
- Must politely and tactfully refer any parental inquiries about a child directly to the Lead Teachers
- Attend all school-sponsored events as agreed upon with and/or requested by the Head of School
- Maintain confidentiality in alignment with the school’s policies and procedures
- Possess ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to chest, squat, kneel and stand multiple and, often, prolonged periods of time
